Evaluating Planning Through Simulation: An Example Using Phoenix
نویسنده
چکیده
For some time, planning researchers have advocated the use of simulators of "complex" environments, domains or problems [Erman, 1990, Drummond et al., 1990]. Yet, a casual survey of planning papers in the last few AAAI and IJCAI proceedings shows that Blocksworld continues to dominate as the domain of choice. Blocksworld is well-known and simple enough that many properties of planners can be demonstrated by examining the search space rather than simulating performance. As a consequence, we, as a field, are still accumulating experience in using and evaluating planners in simulated environments.

Resource-Bounded Reasoning in Phoenix
I started working in resource-bounded reasoning as part of the PHOENIX project (Cohen et al. 1989; Hart & Cohen 1990; Greenberg & Westbrook 1990), while a graduate student in the Experimental Knowledge Systems Laboratory (EKSL) at UMass, Amherst. The PHOENIX problem domain is forest fire fighting, for which EKSL built a sophisticated computer simulation of forest fires in Yellowstone National P...
متن کاملContextualization and validation of the interprofessional collaborator assessment rubric (ICAR) through simulation: Pilot investigation
Background: Simulation can be used for educating, evaluating and assessing psychometric properties of an instrument. The aim of this study was to contextualize and assess the validity and reliability of the Interprofessional Collaborative Assessment tool (ICAR) in an Iranian context using simulation. Methods: In this descriptive study, contextualization of the ICAR was assessed throug...
متن کاملPredicting and Explaining Success and Task Duration in the Phoenix Planner*
Phoenix is a multi-agent planning system that fights simulated forest fires. In this paper we describe an experiment with Phoenix in which we uncover factors that affect the planner's behavior and test predictions about the planner's robustness against variations in some of these factors. We also introduct a technique – path analysis – for constructing and testing causal explanations of the pla...
متن کاملPhoenix Cloud : Consolidating Heterogeneous Workloads of Large Organizations on Cloud Computing Platforms
For a large organization, different departments often maintain dedicated cluster systems for different workloads, for example parallel batch jobs or Web services. In this paper, we design and implement an innovative cloud computing system software, Phoenix Cloud, to consolidate heterogeneous workloads of the same organization on the cloud computing platform. For Phoenix Cloud, we propose cooper...
